Star Tribune Hostile Work Environment Makes Headlines

The Star Tribune newspaper, one of the nation’s largest, settled a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by the EEOC on behalf of female employees at The Star Tribune’s Heritage Production Facility mail room who were subjected to a hostile work environment that included vulgar comments and jokes.

The Star Tribune will pay more than $300,000 to the women who worked in the mail room at the Heritage Production Facility between August 2005 and the present.

Toxic Boss Costs Houston Surgical Center $290,000

A lawsuit was filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against Houston-based First Street Surgical Center after a male nurse was accused of creating a hostile work environment and sexually harassing several female nurses who reported to him.

The victims claimed that their boss made unwanted sexual advances and inappropriate jokes to them.  The EEOC said that the employees who rejected his advances or complained were either fired or given negative performance evaluations.

First Street Surgical Center agreed to terminate the abusive boss and to pay $290,000 in compensation to the victims in order to settle the lawsuit.
